Interesting article in general, but you did get sidetracked with this concern over the term “whale.” I think it would have been important to note, if you were going to spend so much time on it, that the term references Herman Melville’s novel _Moby Dick_. The white whale the protagonist spends his whole life hunting, in fact seemingly gives his life in a final attempt to catch, is the “whale” that’s being referenced. It’s a massive compliment. It’s like saying, “I would spend my whole life trying to get you as my customer, that’s how important you are to my company.” At least that would have been the original sentiment behind it. If that has changed it would sadden me, for it would be another lost link to classic literature.
